The Finch Society of Australia Inc. was formed with the simple aim of bringing together people who are dedicated to the hobby and business of the keeping and breeding of finches. The Society, of more than 50 years standing now contains 3 further branches; the Wollongong, Hawkesbury Valley and Hunter branches. An informative bi-monthly journal titled "The Finch Breeders Review" is distributed to all members by mail. The journal contains the Minutes of the previous 2 meetings, articles on all aspects of the keeping and breeding of finches, reports from all the branches, when and what's happening within the society plus more. The journal also includes "Bird Trader" a free service available to all members wanting to place an add to buy, sell or swap birds or bird related products. The Hunter branch also has it's own monthly journal called the "Finch Fancier" while the Hawkesbury Valley branch has a monthly newsletter titled "Finch Bizz". Monthly meetings consist of the usual society business followed by either an address from guest speaker or a talk from local finch breeders or video or slide night or demonstration or just a members forum whereby we try to sort out new members problems and those of members too!! Worming methods, feeding, breeding and designing aviaries are but a few of the more popular topics. There is also a very good raffle at each meeting plus a giant Christmas raffle with terrific prizes. The Finch Society of Australia is one of the fastest growing bird Societies in Australia with membership increasing at the incredible rate of over 100% since September 2000! Juniors are most welcome and receive help, advice and great encouragement from the "older" members. Check out a copy of the FSA magazine here:
